The
Public Education Fund of Charlottesville-
Albemarle is our communitys response
to the challenges facing local school systems
and teachers within Charlottesville and Albemarle
County. In defining the most critical priorities,
teachers, school administrators, parents,
business members, nonprofit and local agency
representatives came to a consensus on four
areas in need of greater support:
1. Teacher development, recruitment, and retention;
2. Early childhood education; and
3. Student development through mentoring (all
ages), and service learning/internships
(middlehigh
school).
4. Involvement of parents, families and the
communities in our childrens education
Meeting these needs in part through support
from the community would significantly improve
the ability of public schools to focus on
teaching, and would have a dramatic effect
on the ability of local schoolchildren to
succeed. The Public Education Fund of Charlottesville-Albemarle
recognizes the considerable undertaking necessary
to address these priority areas and is
therefore facilitating a cooperative effort
among school systems, local agencies, educational
institutions, businesses, nonprofit organizations,
and the public to step up to the challenge.
