FEATURED PROJECT:

Odyssey: 2025 for Math and Science

The Odyssey: 2025 initiative will create an opportunity for Charlottesville and Albemarle County educators to collaborate with our institutions of higher learning and community partners to create and share innovative and effective teaching and learning strategies in math and science. This important program will

• utilize math and science as the "new literacy"  to combat at-risk student achievement;
• close the gap in opportunities for girls in math and science;
• develop system-wide best practices in teaching math and science;
• encourage greater student interest in math and science; and
• support the economic needs of our community by providing well-trained graduates
   in the fields of math, science and engineering.

This exciting program will begin in 2008 with a Summer Academy where teachers and students will research and develop new approaches for math and science learning.

OTHER PROJECTS THAT NEED SUPPORT:

C-Quest
C-Quest seeks, with input from teachers and guidance counselors, to identify high school students with exceptional promise who would like to attend four year colleges, and to assist them in attaining that goal.

Middle School After-School academic and activity program
An after-school academic and enrichment activity program designed to operate in a school whose students currently are unable to participate in after-school activities due its rural location and the transportation difficulties this poses for parents and the school system.

Senior Volunteer Program
A program designed to connect seniors and other volunteers with students in our public schools. The volunteers participate in a number of ways including working one on one with students, working with groups of students, participating in after-school or enrichment programs, supporting teachers and librarians, or other needs that a school may identify and the program can match a volunteer to meet.
